Stream 1

These grants are available to householders looking to install renewable microgenerators for their domestic property.

The government has recently allocated an additional £6M for this scheme.

Solar PV

The new scheme will provide a "maximum of £2,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 50% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower" for solar PV.

Wind Turbines

The new scheme will provide a "maximum of £1,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower" for wind turbines.

There will be no monthly cap on these grants, and they will be issued on a first come first served basis until the "pot" runs out.

In the mean time you should be aware that in order to apply for a grant there are certain building requirements:

  • Insulate the whole loft with 250mm insulation
  • The property must have cavity wall insulation
  • Low energy light are required in every light fitting in the building
  • Basic heating controls are essential i.e. room thermostat and timer

It is also recommended that you take part in a home energy check of your building.
